Street School Mentoring Program

ABOUT

Many people mentor for selfless reasons, but helping others can do wonders for the mentor too.  Research has shown that there are multiple benefits including: a good feeling about oneself, a feeling of connection with others, a sense of meaning, a greater purpose for life and a perspective about stressors.  Teen mentees may have greater problems and an opportunity to use your own unique gifts to bring perspective can be rewarding.

A mentor’s initial objective is to make a connection—to get to know your mentee and begin the process of establishing mutual trust. Your first encounters/meetings are critically important to making the connection and to the long-term success of the relationship.

Street School, Inc. is committed to providing volunteers to meet the needs of the persons served. Volunteers may be utilized, but do not take the place of paid professional staff for the purpose of providing programs or services to the persons served. All volunteers follow the same policies and procedures as paid staff as it relates to confidentiality and code of ethics. No compensation is provided to those who intern or mentor at Street School.
